BILINGUALISM IN CHILDREN WITH AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDERS: ITALIAN SIGN LANGUAGE AS A TOOL FOR INCLUSION

Anna Chiara Stellato, Francesco Tafuri, Francesca Latino

Abstract

This study underscores the significance of inclusive education, grounded in principles of integration and cooperation, within the realm of education. Teachers play pivotal roles in this approach, requiring a welcoming environment, valuing diverse learning styles, and promoting student collaboration. Eliminating cultural paradigms that perpetuate stereotypes is essential to achieving inclusion. The present contribution highlights the crucial role of the Pedagogy of Difference in inclusive education, and how the use of Italian Sign Language (LIS) proves effective in breaking down communication barriers and fostering integration, providing an inclusive approach that celebrates diversity.
