TURKISH GET-UP WITH KETTLEBELL FOR BALLET DANCERS: EFFECTS ON JOINT MOBILITY
Abstract
The purpose of this study was to evaluate the effects of a 3-month kettlebell training through the Turkish get-up (TGU) exercise, on a group of 20 dancers of a ballet school. All dancers underwent the FMS test to assess mobility and balance, prior to beginning the training protocol. The participants (aged 13-18 years) were divided into two groups: group A employed the kettlebell training, while group B (control group) continued with traditional dance training. After the kettlebell training period, through the TGU exercise, group A showed significant improvements in FMS control tests. These results suggest that specific kettlebell training, compared to traditional dance training, is effective in improving static and dynamic balance, as well as overall joint mobility in dancers.
