THINKING WITH STORIES: AI SUPPORTING NBM IN THE PROCESSES OF PROFESSIONALIZATION/PROFESSIONAL DEVELOPMENT

Abstract


The article promotes Narrative Based Medicine (NBM) as a complement to EBM to overcome biomedical reductionism. The study uses generative AI on 52 narratives to analyze the evolution of healthcare professionals' professional habitus. Results highlight a habitus focused on "soft" skills—like empathy, active listening, holistic care (addressing illness and sickness), uncertainty management, and self-reflection. The AI acts as a reflective device, transforming implicit habitus into conscious and shared professional action
