MEDICAL PEDAGOGY AND THE CENTRALITY OF THE INDIVIDUAL IN UNIVERSITY EDUCATION IN THE HEALTH SECTOR: A QUALITATIVE-QUANTITATIVE STUDY

Fabiola Palmiero, Francesco Tafuri

Abstract

University education in healthcare is evolving to integrate technical, communicative and ethical skills. A study in three Italian universities with Medicine, Nursing and Physiotherapy students examined person-centred practices (narrative medicine, simulation, communication training). Quantitative data (Jefferson Scale, CSAS) showed higher empathy and positive attitudes; qualitative analysis confirmed personal growth and alignment of clinical and human dimensions, stressing the need to revise curricula.
