MULTISENSORY SYNERGIES AND DIGITAL “ACTIVE BREAKS”: ENHANCING EXECUTIVE FUNCTIONS AND EMOTIONAL WELL-BEING

Francesco Gallo

Abstract

This paper proposes a methodological protocol for digitally mediated Active Breaks using the Interactive Whiteboard (IWB), aimed at supporting school well-being, emotional self-regulation and executive functions within an Embodied Cognition framework (Gomez Paloma & Damiani, 2015; Diamond, 2013). Its innovative element is the use of AI as a support to, rather than a substitute for, teachers’ professional judgement (Luckin, 2018), processing observational data to suggest personalised rhythmic-motor activities. The classroom is conceived as an emotionally aware and inclusive environment responsive to cognitive fatigue and barriers to participation (Lane & Schwartz, 1987; Booth & Ainscow, 2008). Given its preliminary nature, the study adopts an exploratory action-research approach to examine the feasibility and sustainability of the protocol and to collect initial evidence on the role of digital technologies in connecting bodily well-being, inclusion and educational practice.
