The algorithmic self between semantic impoverishment and new citizenships Systemic Triangulation as a device of agency and social productivity
Abstract
The irruption of AI into education represents an ontological transformation reconfiguring knowledge validation and subjectivation. Rather than just integrating intelligent tools, it requires reflecting on new structural conditions where knowledge is managed by automated systems. In this framework emerges the Algorithmic Self: a personal identity reshaped by digital flows, exposed to cognitive homologation and semantic impoverishment. Drawing on Floridi's Infosphere, the subject is restructured through the externalisation of cognitive functions. To counter these issues, this paper develops the Systemic Triangulation model (Human–Environment–Technology) (Mancarella, 2026). It recentres the co-evolution between human, context, and technology, viewing learning as socially shared knowledge production. The model translates into operational implications for inclusive didactic design and a critical algorithmic citizenship, grounded in Sen's capabilities (1999).
