Social robotics for inclusive socio-emotional learning

Simona Iannaccone

Abstract

Numerous empirical studies and field applications demonstrate how humanoid robots, conversational agents, and interactive digital environments can act as effective educational mediators, facilitating the acquisition of affective, communicative, and relational skills (Panciroli, Rivoltella, Gabbrielli & Richter, 2020; Sideraki & Drigas, 2021).

The use of social robots and intelligent systems enables the creation of structured, predictable environments with reduced emotional complexity, in which interaction is less stressful compared to direct interpersonal relationships.

At the same time, the integration of artificial intelligence systems based on machine learning, natural language processing, and multimodal analysis allows for continuous monitoring of behaviors and emotional responses, enabling dynamic personalization of educational and therapeutic interventions (Cassese, 2024; Anagnostopoulou et al., 2020).

The use of artificial agents represents a promising frontier for socio-emotional inclusion, particularly in the field of neurodiversity and special educational needs.
