THINKING OF OTHERNESS IN THE ERA OF AI. FOR A PEDAGOGY OF EMOTIONAL INTELLIGENCE IN FORMAL CONTEXTS
Abstract
The paper investigates whether and to what extent AI-based devices can support or simulate certain aspects of the educational relationship, with particular reference to the emotional education of children and adolescents. Starting from the contemporary crisis of human connections, the weakening of emotional awareness, and the growing exposure of younger generations to intelligent digital environments, the contribution reflects on the relationship between emotional intelligence, empathy, and education.
Situated within both classical and contemporary pedagogical frameworks, the paper critically examines both the risks of artificialization and the colonization of human experience, as well as the potential educational resources offered by the digital environment. It underscores the necessity of transcending any technophobia, in order to critically question whether and how intelligent machines can engage in formal educational contexts with practices of recognizing others, self-regulation, compassion, and the design of an authentically human existence.
