ACCESS TO INFORMATION AND COMMUNICATION BARRIERS IN MIGRANT INTEGRATION PROCESSES: EVIDENCE FROM A QUALITATIVE STUDY IN POLAND
Abstract
This study explores the role of communication in accessing information within migrant integration processes through a qualitative analysis of 12 semi-structured interviews conducted at an integration centre in Zielona Góra, Poland. The findings show that access to information is often mediated by informal networks, social media and language skills, shaping participants’ ability to engage with services and opportunities. Although the centre provides important support in terms of guidance and communication, several critical issues emerge, including limited dissemination of information and language barriers, particularly in the early stages of integration. The results suggest that communication practices play a key role in enabling inclusion and represent a crucial dimension of initial integration processes in a new social, institutional and territorial context.
