BEYOND THE DIGITAL DIVIDE: AI AS LINGUISTIC AND AFFECTIVE MEDIATION TOOL AMONG MIGRANT STUDENTS
Abstract
This case study explores how students with migrant backgrounds enrolled in a Provincial Centre for Adult Education in Bari (Italy) perceive Artificial Intelligence (AI) not only as a tool to support linguistic mediation and learning comprehension, but also as a potential resource for well-being, participation, and inclusion in multicultural classrooms. The study adopts an empirical design based on the administration of a questionnaire comprising closed-ended, multiple-choice, and numerical scale items, aimed at collecting socio-demographic, linguistic, and digital technology access data, as well as assessing sense of belonging and engagement in educational activities. The findings highlight the perceived potential of artificial intelligence tools in supporting forms of participation, inclusion, and school well-being within multicultural educational contexts.
