BODY, MOVEMENT AND THE DIGITAL IN EARLY CHILDHOOD: PHYSICAL LITERACY AND EMBODIED INTERACTION IN IMMERSIVE ENVIRONMENTS

Federica Pelizzari, Laura Comaschi, Simona Ferrari

Abstract

This study investigates how children aged 3–6 engage their bodies in immersive digital environments and how such environments can be child-centred. Across 136 systematic observations in three settings, using a 91-item Physical Literacy grid, the environment strongly configured embodied experience, and bodily action and social interaction together accounted for 40% of the variance in cognition. Findings are associational. The settings proved inclusive across age and disability.
