INNOVATIVE LANGUAGE TEACHER EDUCATION APPROACHES INTEGRATING AI-ASSISTED MODELS
Abstract
The increasing integration of artificial intelligence into higher education language teaching presents language teachers, particularly those working in Language for Specific Purposes contexts, with both significant opportunities and pedagogical challenges. Resistance to AI adoption is frequently rooted in limited preparation and insufficient theoretical grounding, making teacher education a critical site of intervention. This article presents the AILEM Erasmus+ project (AI-Infused Language Education: Empowering Teachers through Multilingual MOOC Training), a European consortium initiative developing a multilingual miniMOOC for language educators in higher education and professional training. The project foregrounds the cognitive, critical, and intercultural dimensions of language learning as a foundation for pedagogically responsible AI integration. The article argues that effective AI integration in LSP education requires not technological adoption alone, but reflective pedagogical mediation grounded in a principled understanding of language, learning, and digital environments.
