DIGITAL SPACES AND AUGMENTATIVE AND ALTERNATIVE COMMUNICATION (AAC). TOWARDS EMOTIONALLY AWARE INCLUSIVE DIGITAL LEARNING SPACES.

Domenico Tafuri, Lucia Valentino

Abstract

The increasing presence of digital technologies in education is progressively transforming traditional classrooms into hybrid learning environments that combine physical and virtual dimensions. In this context, the design of inclusive and emotionally responsive learning spaces becomes essential to support students’ communication, engagement, and overall well-being. This paper examines the role of Augmentative and Alternative Communication (AAC) in the development of accessible digital learning environments. Through a theoretical review of studies on inclusive education, hybrid learning spaces, and multisensory technologies, the contribution of AAC tools and symbol-based communication systems to digital educational contexts is discussed. The study highlights how integrating AAC within digital platforms can enhance communicative accessibility and participation, fostering a more inclusive learning ecosystem and the creation of emotionally aware learning environments.
