PATIENT EDUCATION AND THERAPEUTIC LEARNING: PEDAGOGICAL STRATEGIES, NARRATIVE MEDICINE, AND EMPOWERMENT

Chiara D'Alessio

Abstract

The increasing prevalence of chronic degenerative diseases in Italy constitutes a significant and growing challenge for the national healthcare system. Therapeutic patient education, extending well beyond the mere transfer of medical knowledge, actively empowers patients to engage in profound self-reflection, reconstruct their personal identities, and adopt meaningful behavioral and attitudinal changes, ultimately improving adaptation, self-management, and overall quality of life.
