The educational role of space in the learning and development process: a scoping review

Francesca Mara Santangelo, Alessandro Romano, Marinella Muscarà

Abstract

This scoping review explores the role of educational space not only as a physical context but as an active factor shaping learning and development from early childhood. A search across three databases identified 31 studies. Thematic analysis revealed four interconnected areas that foster optimal conditions for learning and development: the learning environment (indoor and outdoor), play, relationship, and the use of technologies.
